“The House of Mouse: Bob Iger and the War of Succession at Disney” now has a release date. Longtime Wall Street Journal reporter Robbie Whelan wrote the unauthorized book. It chronicles Iger’s fifteen years running Disney, his abrupt 2020 departure, Bob Chapek’s ouster, and Iger’s return as CEO. William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins, will publish the book on December 1st, and it’s now available for preorder.

The book focuses on what its publisher calls the most consequential decade in Disney’s history. It traces Iger’s rise from network executive to CEO, then covers the four major acquisitions that reshaped the company: Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 21st Century Fox. From there, it moves into Iger’s 2020 exit, Chapek’s rise and firing, and Iger’s return to the top job.

According to the publisher’s description, Longtime Wall Street Journal reporter Robbie Whelan relies on hundreds of interviews with people in Iger’s orbit. He also draws on thousands of pages of documents, including internal memos and corporate communications the publisher says have never surfaced before. The book is 528 pages long. Whelan has covered Disney and the broader entertainment industry for the Wall Street Journal since 2010, reporting on the business dealings of studio executives, media companies, and other powerful figures across the industry.

The book had not had an official release date until now. Disney has not commented publicly on the finished manuscript. We’ll continue following the book as its December release approaches.
