Walt Disney World’s yearly water park switchover date has been announced. Typhoon Lagoon reopens on January 27th, 2027, ending a fall refurbishment, and Blizzard Beach closes that same day for a refurbishment of its own. The swap keeps one water park open through the cooler months, and both parks should be back in action by summer.

Typhoon Lagoon Reopening & Blizzard Beach Closure Dates in January 2027

IN THIS ARTICLE:

  • Typhoon Lagoon reopens and Blizzard Beach closes on January 27th, 2027.
  • Typhoon Lagoon has been closed for seasonal refurbishment since September.
  • Both water parks are expected to be open for summer 2027.

Disney trades off winter operation of its two water parks every year, closing one for refurbishment while the other stays open. This winter, Typhoon Lagoon takes back over from Blizzard Beach on January 27th.

Typhoon Lagoon Returns January 27th

Disney says, “Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park will reopen on January 27, 2027.” The water park has sat closed since September 9th, when Typhoon Lagoon began its seasonal refurbishment. That puts the closure at about four and a half months by the time guests return to the superior wave pool.

This was the second refurbishment for Typhoon Lagoon in 2026, which also closed for three months last winter before reopening on May 12th. Disney hasn’t said what work took place during either closure, but it’s usually maintenance of some sort.

Blizzard Beach Refurbishment and Summer Outlook

Blizzard Beach gets its turn for a refurbishment on the same day. In Disney’s words, “On January 27, 2027, Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park will temporarily close for refurbishment.” The ski resort-themed water park reopened on February 15th, 2026.

Disney hasn’t announced a reopening date for Blizzard Beach yet. Both water parks should be open again come summertime. That would match this year, when both Walt Disney World water parks operated together starting May 12th. Families planning a summer trip would then have their pick of the tropical wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon or the “cooler” theming at Blizzard Beach.
