Tropical Depression Nine has formed in the Southern Gulf in the Bay of Campeche. It is expected to drift eastward before being pulled north by a trough of low pressure over Texas. This will steer it to a likely landfall near the Louisiana coastline.
Environmental conditions do look conducive for further strengthening in the short term. Tropical Storm Isaias is likely to form in the Central Gulf Tuesday evening. This will become the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season. As this system nears the northern Gulf Coast, it will interact with more upper level shear from the trough of low pressure. This will weaken it slightly before landfall.
While this will not make a direct impact for Central Florida, we will feel indirect effects from this system. As TD9/Isaias nears landfall, it will begin to drag deep tropical moisture from the Caribbean and funnel it into Central Florida. This will keep our rain chances high through the weekend. It will not be until early next week that drier air begins to make a comeback in the area.
