After a lengthy search, Florida Highway Patrol troopers caught a suspect tied to a high-speed pursuit on I-4 in Volusia County.

The chase began on I-4 eastbound near mile marker 123, where a trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a black 2025 Buick Encore. The driver refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed, according to FHP.

The suspect then exited the interstate at mile marker 129, near International Speedway Boulevard, before abandoning the vehicle and running into the woods nearby. Troopers said that the vehicle was towed from the scene.

Afterward, the suspect fled to a Volusia County landfill, though law enforcement soon headed to the same area after a “suspicious person” was reported by someone nearby, a release from the FHP states.

As such, troopers said they were able to catch and detain the man, who was identified as the same suspect from the earlier chase: 45-year-old Akram Bin Ahmed of Winter Park.

Troopers confirmed that Ahmed was arrested earlier this year after a similar incident along I-4, when he was accused of speeding on the highway while running from law enforcement with drugs in his car.

FHP said this incident remains under investigation.

No additional information has been released at this time.
