Central Florida is staying in a classic summerlike pattern, with hot, humid conditions and daily showers and thunderstorms continuing through the weekend.

High pressure will remain over the Florida peninsula, while plenty of moisture stays in place to fuel afternoon storms.

Friday-weekend

A few showers and storms will remain near the coast during the morning hours, but overall activity will increase as the sea breeze develops into the afternoon.

Storm chances reach 50% to 70% today and 60% to 80% this weekend, with the best chance for rain generally between 2 and 8 p.m.

The sea breeze will be the main trigger each day, with storms developing near the coast before pushing inland. A collision over the interior, around or west of the I-4 corridor, could keep some showers and storms going into the evening.

The main concern will be locally heavy rain. Slow-moving storms could drop 1 to 3 inches, leading to minor flooding.

A few storms could also produce wind gusts near 50 mph and frequent lightning.

Temperatures will reach the low 90s, with heat indices around 100 to 105 degrees.

Next week

The pattern changes slightly next week as the ridge over Florida weakens and a stronger ridge builds farther north.

Expect drier air to filter in by Wednesday, allowing rain chances to drop to 30-40%. The lack of rain will keep temperatures slightly warmer than average in the mid 90s.
