People along Florida’s Space Coast are gearing up for large crowds Thursday as four astronauts prepare to launch on a mission to the International Space Station.

SpaceX and NASA are targeting no earlier than 11:10 a.m. Thursday for the Crew-13 liftoff from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

Katherine Williams was among those already scoping out a viewing spot at Jetty Park on Wednesday.

“This is right on our doorstep, so we lucked out,” Williams said. “Don’t really know what to expect, to be honest. How big or how much we’ll see in the sky, but yes, it’s very exciting.”

The four members of Crew-13 arrived at Kennedy Space Center earlier this week. The mission could make history — the SpaceX Dragon capsule is expected to arrive at the ISS just 7 hours and 50 minutes after liftoff, which would mark the fastest journey to the station ever recorded for a U.S. spacecraft.

Williams said she plans to secure her spot early, anticipating large crowds at Jetty Park.

“This place is usually pretty crowded when the cruise boats come in and out, so a rocket launch I imagine would be lots of people here,” Williams said.

The U.S. Space Force’s 45th Weather Squadron is forecasting a 60% chance of favorable conditions for launch. Once docked, the crew members will join Expedition 75 for an approximately six-month stay aboard the ISS.
