For generations of Floridians, Publix has been more than a place to buy groceries. The Lakeland-based supermarket is one of the state’s most recognizable homegrown brands — and a new look at Brand Finance and OnDeck’s rankings confirms its strength.

Publix is Florida’s most valuable brand, according to a state-by-state analysis based on Brand Finance data. The ranking measures the estimated value of a brand itself — its reputation, recognition and ability to influence customer choices — rather than the total value of the company that owns it.

Publix’s standing is notable because retail is the most common industry among the brands leading their respective states. Other retail leaders include:

  • Walmart in Arkansas (No. 6)
  • The Home Depot in Georgia (No. 9)
  • Lowe’s in North Carolina (No. 26)
  • Sam’s Club in Oklahoma (No. 74)
  • Nike in Oregon (No. 39)

The Most Valuable Brand Founded in Every State

Several of those chains also rank ahead of Publix in Brand Finance’s broader global ranking. Walmart is the world’s seventh-most valuable brand, with an estimated brand value of $141 billion. The Home Depot ranks No. 15 at $73.4 billion, while Lowe’s ranks No. 48 at $38.6 billion.

Publix appears at No. 155 in the 2026 Brand Finance Global 500 (No. 72 in the U.S.). Sam’s Club follows closely at No. 158 (No. 74 in the U.S.). Those rankings underscore the distinction between being the most valuable brand associated with a state and being one of the world’s most valuable brands overall.

The biggest names in the national ranking remain technology companies: Apple leads at $607.6 billion, followed by Microsoft at $565.2 billion, Google at $433.1 billion and Amazon at $369.9 billion.

The Most Valuable Brand Founded in Major Countries

For Florida, however, the takeaway is local. Publix’s brand power is built on familiarity, customer loyalty and a deep connection to the communities it serves — a grocery chain that has become a big part of the state’s identity.
