A newly built home. A dead lawn. And a water treatment company that, according to one Ocala couple, won’t answer their calls.
Adrian Overby and his wife say Liberty Water damaged their yard and plumbing after they cancelled their contract, and they caught it all on camera.
The couple signed a contract with Liberty Water, a water treatment company, but cancelled within three days after learning the agreement would not be interest-free, as they say they were told. The contract itself states customers may cancel without penalty or obligation within three business days of signing.
But Overby says the company installed its equipment before the paperwork was even finished. When workers came back to remove it, he says they left the damage behind.
“They removed all the equipment, and they didn’t replace any of the sod, and threw all, emptied the water and the salt all on the new sod,” Overby said. “So they killed the whole section of the ground and have refused to come back and fix it.”
Caught on Camera
The family’s security footage captured the uninstall — and something else. Overby says he heard a worker make a troubling comment on the recording.
“I’m going to kneecap this lady’s pipes real quick and get out of here,” the worker is heard saying, according to Overby.
The Overbys say they want the damage fixed before their homeowners association begins issuing fines. Because the chemicals seeped into the ground, fixing the lawn would require pulling up the soil and replanting the sod.
Company Hard to Reach
Getting Liberty Water on the phone has proven difficult. Overby says the company does not answer calls.
News 6 Marion County Community Correspondent Kayla Lewis tried to track the company down in person. The address listed on Google led to an Ocala storage facility — with no one there to answer questions and no Liberty Water listing among the businesses in the complex.
News 6 then found a second listed address and made contact with a company representative. That representative asked for patience and promised to provide an answer for the Overbys within 24 hours.
News 6 will continue to press Liberty Water for answers.
