A 15-year-old student was arrested on Friday after searching “how to kill the president” on a school computer, according to the Daytona Beach Police Department.
In an arrest affidavit, police said Mainland High School received a “Gaggle Alert” — a program designed to recognize threats of violence or danger on school devices — on Friday, the same day that President Donald Trump was set to speak at the local Ocean Center.
The alert revealed that the student typed out the words “how to kill the president,” followed by “im just kidding,” on her OneDrive account issued by the district, police added.
“Her comments were made the same day the President is due to arrive,” the affidavit reads. “Her comment ‘im just kidding’ shows that she knew any reasonable person would view her original comments as a threat.”

When an officer went to detain the student, she first resisted by trying to leave his office, police said.
During the incident, she also kicked and “swung her arms” to avoid being handcuffed, though the officer was ultimately able to bring her to the floor and take her into custody, investigators said.
Later, police learned from the student’s guardian that she does not have access to weapons at home.
Regardless, the student now faces charges of threatening to kill or cause bodily harm to another; obstructing police; and resisting an officer without violence.
