Broadway is back in Orlando, and the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts is making a statement.

The center opened its new Broadway season this week with the smash-hit “Hamilton” — and if you’ve never been inside, you may be missing more than just a show.

A venue built for every kind of arts lover

Spread across nearly 700,000 square feet and five floors, DPAC is home to four distinct theatres, each designed with a specific purpose.

The largest, the Walt Disney Theatre, seats 2,700 and will host 11 Broadway shows this season. “Hamilton”, which opened this week, is expected to sell out every performance through its run.

The second-largest space may be the most remarkable. Steinmetz Hall ranks among the top ten most beautiful theatres in the world and is one of only a handful of venues globally with an interior sound rating as quiet as the human ear can detect. It serves as the permanent home for the orchestra, ballet, and opera.

For live music fans, Judson’s Live offers an intimate 150-seat room with top-tier acoustics and a lineup that ranges from jazz concerts to bourbon tastings.

Training the next generation

DPAC didn’t design the building only for today’s performers. The Pugh Theatre hosts youth productions, and an on-site school of the arts gives the next generation a place to learn their craft.

“Every single piece of this $600 million building is intentional,” according to the center.

More than a performance hall

DPAC also serves as a gathering space for the broader Orlando community. The DeVos Family Room is available for private events, including wedding receptions. The center’s expansive front yard is open to the public — a green space where families can relax, read, and enjoy the grounds without buying a ticket.

And the center is still growing. DPAC is currently working on a proposed expansion that would add parking, arts programming, and wellness spaces.

Hamilton runs at the Dr. Phillips Center through Oct. 18.
