Central Florida is facing another round of heavy rain and possible flash flooding Monday.
A flood watch remains in effect for all of east central Florida through 7 p.m., with another 1 to 3 inches of rain possible. With grounds already very saturated from recent downpours, additional rain could lead to rapid runoff and localized flooding.
Flooding threat
Bands of heavy rain continue to move across Central Florida, stretching from the coast into the Orlando area. Another 1 to 3 inches is forecast through Monday night, with some isolated amounts up to 5 inches.
Ground conditions are already saturated across parts of Central Florida, especially in Brevard County. That means the ground has less room to absorb more water, increasing the risk of flash flooding.
Rain coverage should gradually decrease later Monday, but locally heavy downpours will remain possible into the evening.
This week
The disturbance responsible for the heavy rain is expected to weaken and stall near Florida. That should bring a gradual decrease in rain coverage, although scattered showers and a few isolated storms will remain possible.
Rain chances will range from 40% to 50% for Election Day Tuesday before dropping to 30% Wednesday.
As winds begin to relax and more sunshine returns, afternoon temperatures will climb back into the low to middle 80s.
Late week
A much-needed break from the rain is expected later this week. Rain chances will drop to 20% or less Thursday into the weekend as moisture decreases across Florida.
Afternoon highs will remain in the low to mid-80s, while lower humidity brings cooler overnight temperatures in the 60s for most locations.
Cooler outlook
Looking ahead, another cold front could approach around next Monday, bringing another opportunity for showers and storms. Some of the coolest air of the season could follow by Tuesday and Wednesday, but the timing and strength of that front are still uncertain.
