After a lengthy hunt, deputies managed to catch a driver who struck a deputy and a patrol vehicle before fleeing on Wednesday, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
In a release, deputies said the incident happened after the deputy pulled over the driver — identified as John Riehm, 34 — who had active warrants out for his arrest.
However, Riehm resisted, hitting the deputy with his vehicle before driving off, investigators explained.
Afterward, deputies asked the public for help finding Riehm’s whereabouts. At the time, investigators said he was last seen in the area of Wildwood.

But later Thursday evening, the sheriff’s office announced taht Riehm had been found and arrested at Wildwood RV Village, roughly 1 mile from where the incident happened.
Riehm now faces charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer; resisting with violence; use of a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer K-9; and possession of methamphetamine/drug paraphernalia.
Meanwhile, News 6 has reached out to the sheriff’s office for more information about the deputy’s condition. The SCSO confirmed that the deputy was not injured.
