Daytona Beach public works crews are pumping down ponds and monitoring water levels as the city prepares for several inches of rain that could worsen flooding in low-lying areas.

The mayor said crews are focusing on areas known to be prone to flooding, including Butts Park, Madison Avenue Pond and North Street Pond. The goal is to create more capacity in those ponds before heavy rain moves in.

The city also has set up an emergency pump in the Fairway Estates neighborhood and at the Gardiner Court Pump Station.

City officials are reminding residents to take flooding risks seriously. Drivers and pedestrians should avoid flooded roads and standing water. The city emphasized the safety message: “Turn around, don’t drown.”

Residents can also help by reporting clogged drains to the Daytona Beach Public Works Department through the city’s online reporting system.

Public works crews are expected to continue monitoring water levels as the rain develops.
