Central Florida’s stretch of breezy, unsettled weather isn’t over just yet. Coastal flooding should gradually improve as king tides ease, but rough surf and dangerous rip currents will stick around. Meanwhile, rain chances are expected to climb this weekend, with the potential for heavy downpours Sunday.
Coastal flooding threat
The worst of the coastal flooding appears to be behind us as this month’s king tides begin to ease. However, minor to moderate coastal flooding remains possible Thursday, especially during high tide around 11 a.m.
The coastal flood warning is scheduled to transition to a coastal flood advisory at 2 p.m. Thursday as conditions slowly improve.
Coastal hazards continue
Even with winds dying down, the beaches will remain dangerous. A High Surf Advisory continues through Thursday evening, with breaking waves up to 7 feet possible.
Breezy conditions will continue, with occasional wind gusts of 20 to 30 mph. Scattered showers are also possible through Friday, with a few stronger gusts accompanying heavier downpours.
Weekend rain chances
Rain chances are expected to slightly increase Saturday, with a 30-50% chance of scattered showers through the day.
Temperatures should be in the mid-70s by trick-or-treat time, with just a few spotty showers around.
Sunday and Monday look even wetter, with rain chances climbing to 60% to 80%. A few storms are possible, and locally heavy downpours, especially along the coast.
Temperatures will stay warm, with afternoon highs in the low to mid-80s.
Stormy next front
Looking beyond Halloween, long-range models are showing signs of a front approaching Central Florida late next week. This system may be influenced by the developing El Niño pattern and could bring an increased chance for stronger storms.
However, it is still too early to pin down the timing, storm potential, or specific impacts. We’ll be watching how the system develops and will have a better idea of what to expect as it gets closer.
