Adam Driver spent years turning down Marvel movies before he finally accepted the role of Mister Sinister in the X-Men reboot, saying this role was finally the right one.

Driver explained on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that this is a “huge” deal for him as a life-long X-Men fan, saying, “I was a big fan [of X-Men]. I mean, I was a fan of the other things too, but this one felt like the right time. It’s X-Men.”

He added about accepting the role, “It was really X-Men and Jake Schreier, who’s the director, his idea for it, and that it’s Kevin Feige. It all kind of came together. The script is really cool.”

He said the reason he was selective about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe was that “a lot of people are going to watch it, and if it’s bad, you know, a lot of people will see you being bad. Plus, I don’t want to mess it up.”

Driver will make his Marvel debut as the main antagonist of the X-Men film slated for release on May 5, 2028. Mister Sinister a.k.a. Dr. Nathaniel Essex/Milbury is a shape-shifting telepath.

He’ll be up against the new X-Men team: Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Scott Summers a.k.a. Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier.
