Volusia County and the local airport have issued traffic warnings ahead of President Donald Trump’s visit to Daytona Beach on Friday.
Trump is expected to speak at the Ocean Center around 7 p.m. on Friday, with law enforcement already bolstering efforts to keep the event secured.
“The peninsula is going to go into lockdown,” Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood said. “So there will be street closures, road closures, and traffic jams.”

The Daytona Beach International Airport issued a statement on Thursday warning travelers to plan ahead and get in early, as the president’s visit is expected to coincide with heavy traffic congestion and delays nearby.
“Although the airport’s main entrance will remain open, motorists may experience delays when traveling to and from the terminal. Airport officials encourage passengers to arrive earlier than usual to allow sufficient time for potential traffic delays, parking, check-in, and security screening.
With potential road closures in the surrounding area, signs will direct motorists to the airport entrance, including designated areas for parking, passenger drop-off, and pickup. Travelers and those picking up or dropping off passengers should follow posted signs and allow additional time to reach their destinations.
Passengers should also check directly with their airlines for the latest flight information, including any schedule changes or delays, before departing for the airport.”

Furthermore, passengers who rely on the county’s public transport services — including VoTran, VoAccess and VoRide — have been urged to plan ahead for traffic delays, especially in Daytona Beach.
County officials said VoTran routes may experience delays throughout the day, and service to the Beachside Transit Facility in the Ocean Center parking garage will be closed.
“Other routes may experience temporary service interruptions or changes to their usual stops,” a release from the county reads. “Passengers using VoAccess paratransit services or VoRide’s nighttime service should also anticipate potential delays.”
The Ocean Center event is scheduled for 7 p.m., with doors expected to open at 3:30 p.m. Chitwood advised people attending to arrive early and urged others to avoid the area if possible. Officials were still finalizing the specific closure locations and traffic plan when he spoke with us.
Chitwood also said airspace restrictions will be in place and drones will not be allowed. He warned that drones could be brought down.
