A 19-year-old woman from Orange City is dead after being thrown from a motorcycle and struck by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 9 p.m. Tuesday in the southbound lanes near mile marker 272 near Ormond Beach.
According to FHP, a 2026 Kawasaki Z900 motorcycle was traveling southbound in the center lane ahead of a 2023 semi-truck. The motorcycle’s rider — a 23-year-old man from Ormond Beach — was traveling above the posted speed limit and accelerated, causing the passenger to be ejected from the bike.
The passenger, a 19-year-old woman from Orange City, landed in the center lane directly in the path of the semi-truck. The truck’s left front end struck the woman. She was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.
There was no collision between the motorcycle and the semi-truck. The truck driver, a 40-year-old man from Orlando, and the motorcycle rider were not injured, and both remained at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
