Newly released 911 calls are providing a minute-by-minute look at the confusion and panic during the Sept. 19 mass shooting in Sanford that injured eight people.

In the calls, several people report trouble by Coastline Park in the Goldsboro area during a memorial gathering for 18-year-old Zi’Erric Wynn. Wynn died in a crash six years ago.

Some callers first tell dispatchers about reckless driving and cars blowing through stop signs.

“It’s a bunch of cars, numerous keep driving real stupid,” one woman said on a 911 call.

In another call, gunfire can be heard as the caller reacts in real time, telling the dispatcher it’s a “shootout.”

Several callers then report that people are down and urgently ask for help.

“Two people are on the ground, they’re not in good condition, hurry up, hurry up,” one young person can be heard saying on a 911 call.

The dispatcher follows up with several questions about what the witness saw.

“I was almost hit actually, I was literally right there when they were shooting,” the person responded.

The caller goes on to state that they saw two shooters, but did not see their faces.

News 6 played portions of the calls for Faith Woods, a Sanford mother who regularly visits Coastline Park with her 2-year-old daughter.

“I wouldn’t want my baby to ever have to call the police or have to call someone in need of help like that,” she said.

Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith has said the violence did not start in Sanford, and bad actors brought their disagreements to the area.

“Whatever it is, keep y’all problems there because the people here don’t deserve to have the aftermath of your issues,” Woods said.

Sanford police told News 6 one victim remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Investigators said they have seized two BMWs connected to the case, but as of Monday, no gunmen have been arrested.

Police also said they have received 12 tips in the month since the shooting.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Sanford Police directly or Crimeline.
