An Orlando man was arrested on Tuesday following a report of sexual battery, according to the Orlando Police Department.

Police received a call reporting the attack around 5:40 a.m. along West Amelia Street near Luminary Green.

Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim, who reported being assaulted.

Per investigators, the suspect — identified as Gervin Jawaski Lewis, 46 — approached the victim, threatened her with a weapon and assaulted her.

“Following the attack, the suspect fled the area,” the release from police reads. “Detectives were able to quickly identify a vehicle associated with (the) crime, and Lewis was located and detained a short time later.”

Lewis was taken into custody and now faces charges of:

  • Armed sexual battery
  • Armed robbery
  • False imprisonment
  • Vehicle burglary
  • Hindering 911 communications

Furthermore, police said they discovered that Lewis had an outstanding warrant in another county.

He faces charges of using a computer to lure a child and kidnapping/human trafficking out of Marion County.

“Our officers acted quickly and decisively to apprehend this dangerous individual,” Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith said. “Their investigative work and determination got him off our streets and demonstrate our commitment to providing the service our community deserves.”
