Orange County deputies are asking the public to help identify people seen near the scene of a deadly shooting that killed a 19-year-old aspiring doctor inside the apartment she shared with her family.

The shooting happened around 12:55 a.m. on October 1, 2026, at the Lorenzo at East Mil apartment complex on Ole Heritage Drive, near Rio Grande Avenue and Orange Blossom Trail. Deputies arrived to find Shoumana Abelanda Toutoute suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to a hospital, where she died.

Investigators release surveillance image

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office released a surveillance camera image showing subjects in the area at the time of the shooting. Investigators want to speak with anyone who can identify the people in the photo.

“No amount of information is too small,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.

Family: ‘She was studying to become a doctor’

A man who identified himself as the husband of Toutoute’s mother said the 19-year-old was studying to become a doctor. He was inside the apartment when the shooting happened and said he heard the gunshots. Toutoute’s mother was visibly distraught when she arrived at the scene from the hospital.

Deputies said investigators are following leads but need the public’s help to move the case forward.

“There is no indication from anything they have learned so far that would lead investigators to believe anyone in that home would have been targeted for violence,” the sheriff’s office said.
