The rollout of new medallions across Walt Disney World has reached a Magic Kingdom landmark, and the design choices are surprisingly generic for the setting.

Generic Medallions at Magic Kingdom Train Station

While the machine itself has not been replaced, it has been updated to reflect the property-wide shift to colored medallions and screen-based user interfaces.

The medallions previously available at the Magic Kingdom train station were bronze-toned, with embossed “Walt Disney World Railroad” insignia and text. Each design features one of four characters and the number designation of a locomotive in service: Mickey (dressed as an engineer) with 58444, Goofy with 42915, Donald with 58445, or Minnie with 60598.

The four available medallions in the train station now feature the standard Walt Disney World Fab Five characters striking their signature poses, but in color. Mickey and Minnie, respectively, are on the gold medallions, while the two silver medallions feature Donald or Goofy.

All have a backside embossing of Cinderella Castle surrounded by stars, with the Walt Disney World wordmark along the bottom.

Also, our reporter noted that the Minnie design was marked as “sold out” at the time.
