A large law enforcement presence surrounded part of a Eustis neighborhood Wednesday, with multiple vehicles, police tape and more than a dozen law enforcement personnel near Danvers Street and Clifford Avenue.

News 6 Community Correspondent Paul Dolan observed at least one person being taken away in handcuffs.

Authorities have not yet confirmed what prompted the operation, how many people were arrested or what charges may be involved.

A person inside the home told News 6 the operation was drug-related and that two people were arrested. News 6 has not independently confirmed those claims, and law enforcement had not released details about arrests or alleged drugs as of Wednesday evening.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office told News 6 it was still gathering information and expects to release more details Thursday.

“I apologize for the delay; I am currently gathering information regarding your request and expect to have a release out tomorrow,” the Sheriff’s Office said in an email.

News 6 asked whether the operation was led by the Sheriff’s Office, Eustis police or multiple agencies, what brought officers to the property, whether a warrant was being served and how many people were arrested.

The scene had cleared by later Wednesday, with the police tape and law enforcement vehicles gone.

Neighbor came to check on community

Pam Simmons, who lives in Eustis, said she came to the scene after receiving a phone call Wednesday morning.

Simmons said her main concern was making sure residents were being treated fairly.

“We gotta respect the law, and the law gotta respect us,” Simmons said.

She also said she does not oppose officers carrying out legitimate law enforcement work.

“I ain’t got no problem with the polices ‘cause that’s what they do. They gotta do they job,” Simmons said.

Simmons stressed that she does not personally know the people living at the home and could not provide firsthand information about them.

“I can’t say nothing about these people in this house ‘cause I don’t know them,” she said. “They off to they self. They don’t bother with people.”

Questions remain

News 6 is still working to confirm:

• Why officers were at the property
• Whether a search or arrest warrant was being served
• How many people were taken into custody
• The identities and charges of anyone arrested
• Whether drugs or other evidence were seized
• Whether the operation is connected to a broader investigation

Although a person inside the home described the incident as a drug bust involving two arrests, News 6 is treating that account as unconfirmed until law enforcement provides official information.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said it expects to release additional details Thursday.
