Two Central Florida men were arrested after Altamonte Springs police said they confronted and attacked someone over an alleged $9 debt at a Wawa early Wednesday morning.

According to an arrest report, officers responded at about 12:45 a.m. on Sept. 9 to the Wawa at 1390 E. Altamonte Drive regarding an altercation.

While officers were responding, dispatchers reported two men running toward a nearby McDonald’s.

The officer later stopped the men near Anchor Road and Amanda Drive. They were identified as Jorge Buss, 20; and Michael Thomas Kershaw, 56.

Victim discusses the attack

The alleged victim told officers Buss and Kershaw confronted him in the Wawa parking lot and demanded that he return $9 they believed he had taken.

The victim said he didn’t know what they were referring to and told the men he did not have the money. He told police the two men then punched and kicked him.

A witness told officers he tried to separate the men.

Suspects give their statements

Kershaw told police he had loaned Connor $9 for what he described as “crack money” and said Connor had not repaid him. Kershaw said he and Buss later confronted Connor at the Wawa.

“Kershaw repeatedly exclaimed that the victim had not returned the $9,” the report reads. “Kershaw became irate and began stating that the money was stolen.”

According to the report, Kershaw claimed the victim swung first but acknowledged that he and Buss approached him about the alleged debt before the fight. Buss told police he was there to “back up” Kershaw.

Kershaw suffered a small cut to the top of his head during the altercation and refused medical treatment from responding Seminole County Fire Department personnel, the report states.

Buss and Kershaw were taken to the John E. Polk Correctional Facility. The report states that Buss later became upset and physically resisted correctional deputies at the facility.

Now, both Buss and Kershaw face charges of disorderly conduct, resisting an officer without violence, and battery.
