At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the magic is no longer limited to the screen.

The Magic of Disney Animation invites guests to step inside a recreation of Walt Disney Animation Studios and explore a space taken over by some of the company’s most beloved characters.

News 6 received a first look at the experience before it opens to the public Sept. 14.

“We had dreamed this space up. We wanted to be able to walk into a space where you see happy families playing, interacting, using really just their body and their brain to bring the space to life kinetically,” said one Disney official.

The experience is modeled after the Disney Animation building in Burbank, California — the place where many Disney characters were first imagined and brought to life.

Guests can explore the studio, interact with characters and learn about the animation process, from story and layout to hand-drawn animation, computer-generated animation, lighting and effects.

Baymax is also on hand for the experience, taking on the role of decorator and helping guests inflate balloons.

“We can play with Baymax. He’s here for this open house. He’s been designated the decorator, so he wants to inflate some balloons and help,” said the same official.

Visitors can also explore an Alice in Wonderland-inspired playground and take part in a drawing lesson led by Olaf.

The experience is designed to celebrate the history of animation while inspiring the next generation of animators.

For one first-time artist, the lesson was a success.

“It was really easy, and it was a lot of fun,” News 6’s Amy Russo said while showing off her drawing of Mickey Mouse.
