Classes are canceled Monday for all students at Astronaut High School in Titusville after a complete power outage left the campus without electricity.

Brevard Public Schools initially announced a 90-minute delayed start for the day. However, after Florida Power & Light said power could not be restored in time, the district made the decision to cancel classes entirely.

The outlined plans for the delayed start would have required all students to report 90 minutes later than their normal start time, all bus routes to run 90 minutes behind schedule, all before-school programs and activities to be canceled, and a shortened school day with regular dismissal times. After-school activities were set to proceed as scheduled under that plan.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility as we work through this situation,” BPS said in a statement.

Florida Power & Light crews were on site working to restore power.

Classes at Astronaut High School are expected to resume Tuesday.
