A mother and her son were killed and two brothers were injured after a two-vehicle crash in Ocala, police said.

First responders arrived at 2:45 a.m. at SE Maricamp Road and SE 36th Avenue, where a dark red Dodge minivan and a black Mazda SUV had collided. The minivan was traveling eastbound on SE Maricamp Road, while the Mazda SUV was heading westbound when it turned left onto SE 36th Avenue, police said.

The two occupants of the SUV — a 50-year-old woman and her 31-year-old son — were pronounced dead at the scene. Two brothers, ages 33 and 24, who were inside the minivan, were transported to a local hospital. One was listed as a trauma alert.

The Ocala Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash. Roads have since reopened.
